Some say the name The New Mile comes from the fine golden sand along this stretch of the Mediterranean coastline, but I am not so sure about that!  Perhaps the name was invested by developers or real estate agents to make a new stretch of coastline attractive to possible buyers, by associating it with salubrious “The Golden Mile” .  I am not sure when the name came about, but it was certainly before 2002 when I move to the coast.

Atalaya and The New Mile is found on the western part of the Costa del Sol between the charming town of San Pedro Alcantara  and Estepona to the west.

To make it easier to discuss the are generally it is split into two physical places: the hillside area, which is the area on the hillside of the main N340 road and the beach side, which is on the beach side of the same road.

In Atalaya and The New Mile properties can be found in some cases at very reasonable prices and at 30% discount from the market peek in 2007.  Property builders and vendors try to attract home buyers with better priced properties which are more affordable. That being said, there are also some expensive properties in the area and the best properties in the best locations are not going to be given away. The marketplace has already improved and has stabilised.  British holiday home buyers love Spain, the Costa del Sol and Atalaya and The New Golden Mile feature highly on their preferred list of locations.

On the hillside of the N340 coast road of the New Golden Mile, you have other desirable areas known as Atalaya, Bel-Air, Benavista, Benamara and Cancelada. People tend to like these areas due to their proximity to amenities – supermarkets, shops, restaurants and bars.  Further, they often more affordable than beachfront property but you can still walk to the beach within a 15 minutes stroll.  Don’t forget to take your sun protection.  You have other desirable areas known as Atalaya, Bel-Air, Benavista, Benamara and Cancelada. Atalaya The New Golden Mile appeals to all sorts of people due to its affordability and location.It is five minutes from the charming Spanish town of San Pedro Alcantara and Marbella is just a further 10 minites from there.  You also have Estepona to the West, just 10 minutes away.  There are wonderful communities of apartments overlooking Atalaya Golf such as Marques de Atalaya and Benatalaya which can be found on the Benahavis Road.
