I was surprised when I reached the top of my road at 0900 to see Toby the local florist opening his stall – flowers hardly fall under necessity goods. I was further surprised that there was more activity on the streets than I anticipated. There were council works cutting hedges and a good few people walking about.
Parking was easy for a change and my office building was empty. I walked to the bank. The masked and gloved up cashier kept me at a 2m distance with chairs strategically placed in front of the counter. I was the only customer in the bank which felt pretty surreal!
I spoke with a few clients who were expecting to be here this week – their flights cancelled from Germany and UK. John a client and friend who owns a property in Calahonda was due out on Sunday this week. He advised me to stock up on essentials just in case – ‘forewarned is forearmed’ were his exact words.
Apart from my regular WhatsApp friends and golfing groups, someone had included me on an agent “Corona virus WhatsApp group”. There must have been 250 messages during the day – some informative, some funny mimes and some a bit troubling. I have to admit that most of my good intentions for the day were not achieved – I had been sucked into the vortex of messages, media, assumptions and unfounded prognosis – the very thing I had told my boys to avoid. So last night I removed myself from the group and an immediate calm set in my mind – some space to think, to plan and time now to implement some the positive ideas in the business and at home that I never seem to have time to get around to doing.
So despite the obvious negative impact on the business of having prospective buyers not be able to visit for the next few weeks, my hope is that I can still add some value between now and then – there is time to provide more information, share views and stories and answer any questions.
With that regard, please do contact me directly with anything on your mind regarding what is going on here and in your part of the world. The short term future is uncertain for sure, but I do hope and believe that things will get back to some sort of normality in the not too distant future. And when they do, holiday makers and property buyers will return to the Costa del Sol with a vengeance.
