I worked from home for much of the day and then escaped to the office for 3 hours in the afternoon. The streets were very quiet as you can imagine. Usually, two of the six offices in my office block are always open all day – one is a gestor office which Alicia and her husband Eduardo run. I don’t think there is a word for “Gestor” in English, but basically it is an administrative office which helps individuals deal with all the public offices and associated paperwork. They do accounting, basic legal work, administration and registrations etc. Clearly they deal with the general public so are closed. The other is an English language school. John and his partner have clients throughout the day and in the evening groups of kids who come after school. Monday I noticed he was doing some video conference classes, but he wasn’t there.

I keep coming back to the term “surreal”. Usually there is a level of ambient noise that exists – cars, people talking, gardeners with their mowers, blowers, hedge trimmers, the chink and drilling of numerous building sites and house reforms – now pretty much silence.

My sister sent me a form to fill out which you need to have with you in the car in case you get stopped by the police, so you can prove your place of work. Usually I would scoff at such an idea, but I dutifully completed the form.
I think I watched ‘Big Brother’ two or three times in the very first series back in 199?. Feels like I am locked in the video diary rooms (no video on this occasion) dumping my thoughts!

I heard today from a friend he knows a couple who were fined 600 Euros for being in the cat together to go to the supermarket (law presently says just one person per car). I also was told of someone who was fined for riding their bicycle on the promenade… strange times!
